MOUNT ABU: How often do we realize that animals and birds too look for a place to quench their thirst in this sweltering weather when people prefer to stay indoors.
Residents of Mount Abu know this and hence have started to make arrangements to provide water to winged creatures.
The People for Animal Mount Abu and Paras Ram Sharma, a social activist, are urging residents to hang water pots made of plastic with fresh water outside their houses for the birds.

A resort has begun the noble gesture after taking the blessings of Gurudev Rakesh Zaveriji of Shrimad Rajchandra Mission, Dharmapur. It has placed about 100 water pots made of sturdy plastic at vantage points. It is ensuring that the water pots get regular supply of fresh water.
Sophie McCallum said, "Birds are not worried about the aesthetics of the pot. All they want is water. It is a commendable initiative."
Paras Ram Sharma, a local activist, said most small birds need to drink water at least twice a day.
The group is making optimum use of new information technology tools to create awareness about the initiative. It is sending SMSes to the residents and has even created a a page on the social networking site Facebook. "Around 60 per cent of birds die in the cities due to scarcity of drinking water. Many birds die after drinking contaminated water," another social activist said.
